Course Description:
This course will explore concepts of family systems theory as applied to relationships over the lifespan with a focus on families portrayed in movies set in Ireland. Films are a powerful medium for observing the characteristics of individuals as they participate in family dynamics. Visiting the locations from scenes in movies such as Angela’s Ashes and P.S. I Love You will offer opportunities to discuss how culture impacts relationships. Potential visits include the Sarsfield Bridge and Whelan’s Pub on Wexford Street in Limerick, Kilmainham Gaol and Trinity College in Dublin, and other sites such as Galway, Cork, and the Dingle Peninsula.

Prerequisites:
Basic Writing Course

Physical Activity Requirements:
Expect to walk 4 to 6 miles a day in potentially rural areas.
