Course Description:
London’s rich cultural and historic heritage, as well as its diverse traditions and values, make it the perfect locale for exploring how design and art create visual culture. We will explore the history of print and photography, advertising and graphic design, painting and street art, by visiting museums like the Victoria and Albert, the Tate Modern, and the British and Design Museums, as well as world class design studios. In this introduction to some of the most significant themes and movements in visual culture, students will gain new skills in deciphering visual cues and interpreting different types of design and art forms across cultures.

Prerequisites:
None

Physical Activity Requirements:
On average: 3 to 5 miles of walking. Wear real shoes - the city streets of London are rugged in and of themselves; flip-flops thin sandals or ballet flatsare not allowed on field trip events. We will spend time out in the weather not just in moving from venue to venue. Some of our activities take place outside and in whatever weather is happening that day. July in London is often sunny and even hot but youll still need to bring an umbrella with you.
