Laura Hartford is an Associate Professor of Art at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. She teaches photography and digital art and serves as an Associate Dean of the university's College of Arts and Sciences. She has a background in fine art and commercial media production, including credits as an Associate Producer of video programs for Donna Lawrence Productions, where she managed short form documentary projects for museums and visitor centers. She holds an M.F.A. from Indiana University, Bloomington and is the recipient of grants for art and teaching from the Kentucky Foundation for Women, the Society for Photographic Education, and the Kentucky Center for the Arts. Her work is included in both private and institutional collections at the University of Louisville Photographic Archives, the Kinsey Institute, the Preus Museum of Photography in Horten Norway, and the William Henry Fox Talbot Museum in Lacock, England, where she served as an artist in residence.

Course Description:
Designed for anyone interested in art, photography or British culture, this fun hands-on course introduces a range of historical and contemporary experimental practices. Students will explore the birth of photography in England and the Victorian obsession with all things optical that helped lead up to it. We’ll create a photographic record of our travels, while experimenting with pinhole cameras, stereo photography, cyanotypes, emulsion lifts, light painting, book binding and other creative processes. We’ll visit London galleries, the Photography Centre at the Victoria and Albert Museum, beautiful Lacock Abbey where photography was invented, and scenic sites around the city. All skill levels are welcome.
