This course explores the development of British literature through horror and mythology. Students will immerse themselves in London and the surrounding English countryside by first reading about and then visiting the key sites that influenced this lore. We will read excerpts from L’Morte d’ Arthur and visit Warwick Castle and Stratford-upon-Avon, explore Highgate Cemetery alongside Dracula, and visit the Warner Brothers Studios as we explore Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Together, we will investigate the nature, development, and function of myth and legend in culture and in literary works, and the nature and function of mythic archetypes.
