WKU Course:
MUS 430

Course Description:
Our music reflects our struggles. Protests and persecution of the past four centuries in London demonstrate this idea. In this course, we will explore the ways in which conflict has provoked response in music, from the seventeenth-century religious wars to Amy Winehouse and Ziggy Stardust in modern times. We will examine the relationship between present socio-political currents and contemporary musical trends. Walking tours, live performances, and visits to sites such as Abbey Road Studios, homes of London's rock stars, Camden Jazz Café, Covent Garden, Westminster Abbey, Chapel Royal, and St. Paul’s Cathedral will supplement readings, podcasts, and discussions.
