Course Description:
Learn about the differences and similarities between the British and American healthcare systems through field trips in London and other parts of the UK to healthcare facilities and historical sites. We’ll interact with healthcare workers and consumers and learn about how the education of healthcare professionals compares to the US model. In London, we’ll walk in the footsteps of the mother of modern nursing at the Florence Nightingale Museum and of the father of modern psychiatry at the Freud Museum. We’ll explore how healthcare has evolved when visiting the Roman Baths in Bath, the Old Operating Theatre in London, and an underground military hospital in the Cliffs of Dover dating from World War II.

Prerequisites:
Enrollment in lower or upper level nursing or social work courses. Students in the lower level course should have completed at least 21 hours of their college's general education requirements.

Physical Activity Requirements:
Expect to walk 5+ miles a day and walking considerable distances at one time.
