Myth and Mythmakers in Irish Literature

Course Description:
This course will focus on the legendary characters and landscapes of Irish myth and literature. Reading a selection of the greatest hits of Irish literature, we will visit numerous relevant sites like the ruins of Glendalough Monastery in the Wicklow Mountains and Yeats country in the West of Ireland.

Our reading and exploration will allow us to understand how artists from medieval times to the current day tell stories that record the mythology of the past and also remake it to speak to the concerns of the their contemporary audience.

Students in the lower level course should have completed their college's basic writing requirement. Students in the upper level course should have a completed a survey or Intro to Literature course.
